TWO Sessions this year! June 20-21 and July 11-12, 2008

There are many quality opportunities available out there for the aspiring official. So how is this camp different?

I have heard from officials and association leadership about the lack of training and growth opportunities for officials within the High School level of competition. At the same time there is growing pressure to use officials proficient in 3-person mechanics for championship level games.

We all agree that movement within any Association occurs as a result of your own improved understanding of the game of basketball. That takes preparation.  However, movement within your own Association can only occur when someone who has decision making power either hears about you or even better, actually sees you on the court.  This is referred to as opportunity.

SD Rising Officials Camp strives to be that place where preparation meets opportunity.  We have an open invitation to association leadership from SD area high school basketball associations to join us during our sessions.  This means that there will always be a place for the current ICs, current assignors, and other important members of your HS association to be part of this camp experience.

So maybe you are already on the map, but you haven’t been exposed to 3-person mechanics.  Let’s face it, many good officials look quite ordinary the first time working 3-person mechanics.  This reality has forced assigners to seek officials with prior 3-person experience.  Why not be ready? Why not be prepared so your HS association can choose you?  SD Rising will offer 3-person High School mechanics training and live game experience.

I can guarantee that improving your understanding 3-person mechanics will improve your 2-person mechanics.

SD Rising Officials Camp offers a setting that maximizes your learning and practice. I think we have something to offer novice officials and veterans alike. We tailor instruction and feedback to the individual.

We will kick off the camp with a 3-person HS basketball mechanics in-depth review. You will officiate boys High School Varsity competition.  You will be seen by your HS association. You will be evaluated and counseled by well respected college and high school officials. This group includes officials with CIF championship game experience who came up through the high school associations you are in now.

Anything after that is a bonus…and we think we have a few here. We will be visited by Junior College basketball assignor for the South Coast and Orange Empire Conferences. He also happens to be a veteran Div I referee in the Big West Conference.  The Pacific Coast Conference assignor Mark Michalak has also been invited. Michael Greenstein (PAC 10, WCC, Big Sky) will join us for a chalk talk about officiating basketball.  Other guests are being invited so we should have some great folks to come listen to and talk basketball with.

Camps will be limited to 30 officials, so do not delay!  Apply today!
